The Hitch

Often, when my brain is idle, I wonder which way our country is headed. I look around and there are problems which need to be solved everywhere. It wouldn’t be a pessimistic point of view if I say that most of these problems seem unsolvable.
In reality, this is the mother of all problems. The fact remains that we pass on the baton, called problem, freeing ourselves of any emotion we may have felt towards the problem.
Actually, what are you freeing yourself from? Have you ever actually felt any guilt on your part? Have any of us actually accepted -the- problems as -our- problems? Most likely the answer is a meek ‘no’. Most likely we are all so absorbed in our own little world that we don’t even want to step out and see what difference we could make, if we ever felt like. The truth is, in the deepest corner of our heart, we wish that there was something we could do to make a difference but well…who has the time?
Say hello now to the grandmother of problems. The absence of initiative. Yes, initiative. All of us are familiar with this problem. When we find our self struggling to choose between the blanket or the toothbrush, to shut up or to speak up, to ignore or to react and many such choices in a day of our everyday life . In a single line, the choice between what’s right and what’s wrong. The choice between the initiative in the right direction or not. Often, the harder choice is the right choice. This hindrance is probably the only bridge we have to cross before we make it from the oblivious side to the awake and aware side. It is the start that is required to initiate the crossover. Let us start by accepting that we have made many wrong choices in our short lives. We have chosen the easy way for a very long time. Each one of us has to take the initiative to make a difference sooner or later. It is the first step towards becoming a more satisfied individual.

A Question called Life

I was watching The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy the other day. Although a very average movie, I have ever since been badgered by the very question that causes King Zaphod to give the order for the destruction of the Earth.
What is the answer to the ultimate question?
What is the answer to life?
(I refuse to accept 42 as an answer!)
Rightfully so, even 450 million years will not be enough to obtain an answer. The fact that life is unknown except in this 6400 km radius only assures that the answer is even harder to find. Personally I am of the belief that we cannot be so so SO special that life could just have been here leaving the rest of the entire universe so boring.
At least in our own eyes, we are the smartest species of the planet. I’m quite sure that even a donkey would feel this way though. Anyway, assuming the Sapiens’ superiority there isn’t really anything too special that we’ve done which supports the claim of us being the only existing known and identified life form capable of looking for another life form. The good old days, historical rather, when everyone had to fight for survival and life was like a good game of Age of Empires are also long gone. The civilization as a whole has become rather aimless. It’s just a routine which goes on – get born, go to a good public school, get admission into a good college, make loads of money, start a new family and die with the satisfaction that you managed to out-shine the others. What a boring life this is. Completely aimless. I wish I could have been born a few millennia before today. Our actions would still mean something then. An answer the question called life would still be possible. It could have been something like advancing through the ages, inventing and discovering things to make life easy, finding new ways to kill each other etc. That could be the answer to a human’s life, but is that an answer at all? Even if it is an answer haven’t we done that already? Which means 2012 could actually be happening? Which in turn means that we all have a lot to do in such a short time!
Or maybe this is not the answer. Then what is?
I don’t know yet. Maybe I will one day.
Till then I’ll go watch up the World Cup, which hopefully isn’t the last one that happens!
